WEST KIRBY MARINE LAKE, WIRRAL - WING FOILING SPOT GUIDE

Set on the very tip of the Peninsula with stunning views of the Welsh Hills and the Dee Estuary, this man-made saltwater lake is fast becoming a top wing surfing destination. It is 52 acres in size, 5 foot deep and totally enclosed, making it an exceptionally safe space.

WIND DIRECTION

Safe directions from North North West (NNW), round through West to South South East (ESE). North East and East Winds are not advisable as the wind comes over the land causing gusty conditions and the Marine wall and houses cause a wind shadow

LIVE WIND

TIDES / CONDITIONS

Tides above 8.9m creates a confused chop with waves over the wall and bouncing off the walls. Jettys can also become submerged and difficult to see.

HAZARDS

The jetties are supported on metal posts, so watch your hydrofoil winds on theses to avoid damage.

The depth of the water next to the sea wall becomes shallow. So make sure you stay 5 meters away from the wall.

Advisable to wear boots as there are weever fish and some razor clams.

Most people use 70cm - 85cm masts

PARKING

Parking in Wirral Watersports Centre car park inc within the licence, Also free on street parking if you can find it or paid parking in Morrisons across to road.

FACILITIES / ACCESS

You will need to by a 1 day, 1 month or 3 month lake licence to get access to the lake from the Wirral Watersports Centre. The licence will give you access to changing facilities, showers and toilets during their opening hours. More info on the link below
